iPads in Education:

Picture
One of the features of technology is the rapidity with which new developments embed themselves in the culture, behaviour and mindsets of Australians, and particularly young Australians. As educators we need to ensure that we communicate in ways which are relevant to young people, in order that they benefit from the skills and understandings we seek to impart. Schools without 1:1 programs risk irrelevance and student disengagement. This is also the case with educators employing old, cumbersome technology. However, we need to also ensure that we are not using technology simply for the sake of it, but rather to enhance learning outcomes and wise behaviours in our students.

What is the purpose and how will a student use an Apple iPad?

While we can speculate about the wonders of the Apple iPad, little is known about how it will be used by students and teachers in an educational context.  This project will do just that!  It will provide answers to many questions which educators all around the world are asking – “What will be the purpose and how will students use the Apple iPad to aid their learning”.

Students will be given the opportunity to explore the use and capabilities of an Apple iPad and show how this device may aid them in their learning.  Data on how students interact with and personally use an iPad will be collated and presented regularly to the wider community.

At the conclusion of the project, data will be analysed and decisions about the future requirements of the 1:1 program can be made.
