ICT Resources

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are tools and resources that are used to communicate and to create, disseminate, store and manage information.  How you use technology in education is more important than if you use it all" (Thornburg, Technology in K-12 Education, Envisioning the Future, 1999)

Effective use of technology will ensure that students can:
  • Efficiently and effectively access digital information to assist them to investigate issues, solve problems and make accurate and informed decisions.
  • Produce creative solutions to support their learning and develop new understandings in a range of learning areas
  • Communicate, share and work collaboratively in local and global environments.
  • Understand the legal, ethical and health and safety implications of using ICT and their responsibilities as users and developers.
  • Develop new thinking and learning skills to support their learning in the 21st Century.

Students today are surrounded by technology - it is a part of their normal lifestyle.  We as educators need to optimize the school environment to reflect the world around our students.  Educators must bridge the gap between the busy teacher and the highly tech-savvy students.
A vision of K-12 Students Today

This short video was created by B. Jnesbitt to inspire teachers to use technology in engaging ways to help students develop higher thinking skills.

The information and resources provided on the following pages are intended to assist educators in ensuring that the digital natives that fill our classrooms are engaged, excited and prepared for the future.

eNotebooks:

In a world where technoliterate students challenge educators to accommodate for their learning needs in imaginative ways, eNotebooks provide an ideal
platform to present attractive, entertaining and informative units of work.

ICT Ideas for the Classroom:

Originally the internet was a 'Read Only Web', a place to locate information.  Today the web is no longer a passive environment.  Here is a list of Web 2.0 tools that can help teachers develop communication and collaboration within their classrooms.

"To 'tech' or not to 'tech' education is not the question.  The real question is how to harvest the power of technology to meet the challenges of the 21st century and make education relevant, responsive, and effective for everyone, anywhere, anyti
