Standard 7: Contribute to the school and professional community
2016 - 2018 Application
EXAMPLE 1: Mernda Community Garden For the past five years I have been a member of our local Community Garden and more recently I have served on the committee as an ordinary member. Community gardens are a place where people can come together to grow and share food, to learn, relax, reflect and make friends. Community gardens provide a range of social, physical and environmental benefits including:
As a member of the garden and committee I am able to use my skills in order to cultivate and publish a bi-monthly newsletter as well as produce various advertising material to help promote the garden. I have worked with local school groups to create a mural at the garden and assisted them to set up their own garden at school. I have also supported the garden members at various community events which are aimed to promote inclusion and diversity in the area. EXAMPLE 2: Homework help Over the past two years I have been involved with a local community group which assists people in our local area that are struggling financially. Over the Christmas period we gather and distribute hampers for those in need. During the rest of the year we assist where we can with an extra meal, a few essential items from the supermarket or passing on items we no longer need. I also provide homework help for parents within the group. Parents will email/message me their child’s homework task or question and I provide assistance including videos to watch which might explain the maths concept, ideas of what topic to investigate for an assignment – or where to find information and/or assistance with studying for tests. |
